Liverpool family put on a Christmas light show with music and special effects

A couple from Liverpool are putting on a Christmas light show for the whole community to enjoy during the holiday season.

Helen and Martin Walsh have transformed the exterior of their home with lights and decorations that people can pass by and enjoy.

It doesn’t end there, as their Liverpool Christmas Light Show includes music, videos and pictures.

The couple came up with the idea after watching a video on Facebook.

Speaking to ECHO, Martin said: “I have always loved Christmas lights and Christmas as a whole. I’m always looking for new ways to do things. Just before Christmas 2020, I found a video on Facebook of a whole different way of making Christmas lights. The videos I saw were absolutely gorgeous. They had all kinds of different effects, all in music.

Helen and Martin were able to find everything they needed from small UK businesses and then got to work planning the show and putting everything together themselves.

Helen and Martin used thousands of lights.

Helen explained, “People can expect to see a lot of wonderful effects, including videos and pictures. There is a whole series of music on which we made the sequences. There’s something for everyone, from the baby Christmas shark to the classic Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire by Nat King Cole.

“It took about 10 months to plan everything and do all the programming and manufacture of the accessories. Getting everything outside once done took about four days avoiding the rain.

“The total number of lights is 14,641. There are 6,449 for the tree, arches, window frames, singing bulbs, singing tree, spinners, and snowflakes. Then there are 8,192 for the two matrix panels. “

The couple are raising money for Alder Hey which you can donate here.

Helen said: “We have always supported Alder Hey. Everyone knows the wonderful work Alder Hey is doing for children everywhere and we want to give something back. We also have an 8 year old boy and Alder Hey has helped him with various things since he was born.

“We hope people will be in awe of the light show and really get into the Christmas spirit.”

The light show takes place outside Helen and Martin’s home at 7 Palmerston Drive, Halewood, Liverpool, L25 9GD. The official start of the Liverpool Christmas Light Show will take place on Wednesday 1 December.
